Meaning of Social Distancing

‘Social distancing’ is actually “physical” and it’s a system. It operates in the cohesion of larger social cohort. It’s not discriminating, rather integrating the affected person, or say following certain norms of isolation, that helps in maintaining the social fabric. Reducing physical contact optimizes maintenance of social systems in long run. Distancing in an affected social set up reduces morbidity through suppression of transmission of certain killer elements like virus etc. However, the members of the given society or social system remain connected with each other and share many common social elements.

Social distancing, in other hand, may lead to loneliness, depression, reduced productivity and other benefits associated with human interactions.

WHO favours the term “Physical Distancing” as opposed to “Social Distancing”.
